Working Out The Armor Of God
Hello to all! I pray God is blessing you as you seek His heart. I have been seeking God about "The Armor of God" in Ephesians 6:10-18 We are told in God's word that it is our responsibility to work out our own salvation. This does not mean we save ourselves, but means that we make choices that lead to a more peaceful, mindful, and obedient life in Christ.
There are several parts of "clothing" that God states to put on through the Apostle Paul. These are lovingly referred to as our "armor". Since God's word is to be worked out in word and in deed then there are actions to go with the words in this chapter of Ephesians. These in a nutshell are this:
Put on: The Belt of Truth= A belt holds things up, Right? So to put on the belt of truth is to uphold the truth or stand for the truth. If you stand without a belt your pants will fall down. If you stand without the truth your life will fall down. It is better to be in the truth, to know the truth, and to speak the truth, then to suffer from falsehoods or deception.
The Breastplate of Righteousness= The breastplate covers and protects the heart. To walk in righteousness is to believe God and walk in right living. When we believe God and walk uprightly (balanced in our belief) our hearts are protected. No one and nothing can come against us when we doing all we can to live right and take God at His word.
Shoes of Peace= Our shoes cover our feet when we walk and to walk in peace is to walk protected when the road is rocky. If we choose the shoes of protection or the shoes of peace we choose to walk in peace and not chaos. Then our road can't help but be more smooth no matter what happens (And things DO happen!) God says to persue peace.
Helmet of Salvation= The helmet protects the head and Christ is our salvation. To put on the helmet of salvation is to have the mind of Christ. To have the mind of Christ is to think like Christ. When we think like Him we are protected because we will act like Him as well. He is our head and we are the body.
Sword of the Spirit= God's word. To know God's word is to understand what defends us. Sometimes our defense is just to know the truth and that is enough. God's word will cut like a knife through any words or actions that try to cause us to stumble. The enemy can't come near us when we are speaking God's truth from our mouth. It cuts him down like a mighty sword and he will back up and cower like a struck down wolf. He assumes we will back down, but when we don't he must flee. There is no other truth. Nothing else is needed. Its God's word.
Pray= Talk and communicate with our Father. To pray is to have communion with God. It is not a time to sit and cast our agenda upon God's shoulders. Even though He wants to know our needs and desires, He wants our fellowship even more. To fellowship with God is to have the greatest relationship of all time! He is our creator and Jesus is our Messiah! There is no greater love that we can find then to commune with the love of our Father, His Son, and His Holy Spirit. What power! Nothing can come against this power!
The weapons of our warfare are not carnal...they are God's love and His truth through us. All of these things are completely love! Those of us who have chosen to walk with Jesus are the only ones who have these weapons to make up our armor! In the battle against good and evil, love wins out every time!
Blessings! Jenine
